Agree access before agreeing a start date
Tell the contractor when vehicles must be moved and whether anyone needs reliable pedestrian access during the work. Consider visitors, deliveries and emergency access. If the driveway is the only practical entrance, discuss the sequence rather than assuming a path will always remain available.
Get a realistic site-specific programme
Excavation, supporting layers, drainage and surfacing can restrict access at different times. Material and weather conditions also affect the programme and return-to-use advice. For a Winchester home, ask where materials and equipment will be placed and how bins, pets and children will be kept away from the work area. Do not rely on a generic “finished in a few days” claim. A contractor should explain the proposed sequence and keep you informed if the plan changes because of conditions discovered on site.
Your project checklist
- Arrange temporary parking before work starts.
- Confirm essential pedestrian and delivery access.
- Ask for site-specific return-to-use instructions.
Can you guarantee the same installation time for every driveway?
No. Size, preparation, weather, access and the chosen system all influence the programme.
