Keep the joints and surface under observation

Weeds can establish where seeds and organic debris collect. Regular sweeping and timely removal of small growths help keep the surface tidy. Check whether joints are losing material or whether vegetation is concentrated near planting beds, rather than assuming every weed indicates a failure beneath the driveway.

Clean without disturbing the construction

The appropriate cleaning method depends on the paving product and jointing system. Aggressive washing can disturb joint material, so ask for manufacturer guidance and any required reinstatement after cleaning. If blocks are moving, sinking or separating at the edges, investigate the construction rather than treating it solely as a weed problem. Request a handover sheet that explains routine cleaning and what to watch for. “Low maintenance” is a more realistic description than promising a surface that will never need attention.

Your project checklist

  • Sweep away soil and leaf debris regularly.
  • Remove small weeds before they become established.
  • Ask about joint care after pressure washing.

Does new block paving guarantee a weed-free driveway forever?

No. Future debris and seeds can still lead to growth; regular care is needed for any outdoor surface.
